Death Recorded looks at the death penalty as it was applied in Suffolk during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. During that time, Assize Court judges handed out about a thousand death sentences to felons for a whole range of crimes, from simple theft to murder. Of those, about 170 were hanged, most before an audience of thousands .
